Lighting Kent Monkman’s Studio
Kent Monkman is a renowned Cree artist whose work challenges stereotypes, reimagines colonial history, and reclaims Indigenous presence within Western art traditions. His paintings, often subverting the style of the Old Masters, are featured in major collections and exhibitions, including the Royal Ontario Museum, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the National Gallery of Canada, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
His studio was originally designed solely as a working space, but they wanted the flexibility to transform it into a gallery for private exhibitions. Lumicrest had the pleasure of installing approximately 60 Apturi III Gallery Track lights with barn door accessories, along with a complete track system, for which we also provided the layout design, and installation by our favorite electricians, Finnigan & Son.
Here is what the client had to say:
“Our studio can now double as an exhibition space, thanks to our new Apturi III gallery track lighting from Lumicrest. The colours of the works look more vibrant and accurate, and we love the versatility of their adjustable beam angles. David, the Lumicrest team, and their electricians, are always a pleasure to work with.”
